Prosthetic dentistry
We know that sometimes teeth must be taken out for various reasons and this is where we can step in with prosthetic teeth to ensure that the mouth’s function is restored. When we want to restore missing or damaged teeth, we make use of crowns, porcelain bridges and dentures. Crowns are caps that cover a damaged tooth. Implant crowns get placed on dental implant screws as the final restoration. Ceramic bridges are used to bridge the gap between missing teeth and dentures replace multiple missing teeth.
We can also make use of prosthetics to improve the aesthetics of front teeth with the help of veneers that are thin and shell-like and get placed over your existing teeth to improve the appearance or strengthen them.
Root Canal Treatment
We only use the most up-to-date and scientific approach to root canal treatment to ensure optimal comfort during the procedure and long-term benefits afterwards.
A root canal is a dental procedure implemented to save severely damaged teeth. Inside each tooth is a bundle of nerves, arteries and veins. If anything damages this bundle a root canal is needed to save the tooth. During the procedure this bundle of tissue is cleaned out and the tooth is filled up with a variety of different materials. Finally, the tooth is usually covered with a crown to give it strength.
Root canals are often associated with a bad reputation, but here at The Family Dentist we are working towards changing that and proving that it’s not so bad after all.
Conscious sedation
Conscious sedation in dental treatment involves using medication to help patients relax during procedures. This approach helps reduce anxiety and discomfort, making dental visits more tolerable for those who may feel nervous or fear dental treatments. A sedationist assists us at the practice in the comfort of our dental chairs and ensures a safe and comfortable process where you are put asleep for the duration of the procedure. This is an amazing way of helping especially our young ones that are quite anxious or that need a lot of work done at once.
Surgical procedures
At The Family Dentist, we offer various surgical procedures that will not only ensure the utmost gentleness but also impeccable skill. Surgical procedures that we offer are:
Wisdom teeth extractions
Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, are the last set of molars to emerge in the back corners of the mouth. They typically appear between the ages of 17 and 25, but often, there isn’t enough space in the mouth to accommodate them adequately. As a result, they can become impacted, meaning they don’t fully emerge through the gums, or they may emerge at an angle, causing various dental problems.
Dentists often recommend wisdom teeth extraction to prevent potential complications and maintain overall oral health. Depending on the case’s complexity, the procedure is typically performed under local anaesthesia, conscious sedation, or general anaesthesia. After the extraction, patients may experience some discomfort and swelling, but proper post-operative care can help minimize these effects and promote healing.
Frenectomies
A frenectomy is a minor surgical procedure involving removing or modifying a frenulum, a small fold of tissue connecting two structures in the body. The most common types of frenectomies are lingual frenectomy and labial frenectomy, also known as lip-ties and tongue-ties. The procedure is often quick and straightforward, involving the use of local anaesthesia to numb the area. Frenectomies can help improve oral function, alleviate discomfort, and enhance oral hygiene.
Apicectomies
An apicectomy, also known as root-end resection, is a minor surgical procedure performed by the dentist to treat an infection or inflammation in a tooth’s root tip (apex). It’s typically considered when a standard root canal treatment has been unsuccessful or is not feasible due to anatomical complexities or other factors.
Crown lengthening
Crown lengthening is a surgical dental procedure designed to expose more of the tooth’s structure by removing gum tissue and sometimes bone from around a tooth. This procedure is typically performed to improve the tooth’s health or to facilitate restorative or cosmetic dental treatments. Overall, crown lengthening is a commonly performed dental procedure that improves oral health, function, and aesthetics.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are titanium posts surgically inserted into the jawbone beneath the gums to serve as artificial tooth roots. They provide a sturdy foundation for replacement teeth, such as crowns, bridges, or dentures. Dental implants offer several benefits, including improved appearance, enhanced chewing and speech functionality, durability, and preservation of adjacent teeth and jawbone density. They are a long-term solution for tooth loss and can significantly improve the quality of life for individuals with missing teeth.
Aesthetic procedures
At The Family Dentist, we believe that aesthetic dentistry is about more than just creating a beautiful smile; it’s about fostering a sense of confidence and empowerment that radiates from within. That’s why we take the time to listen to your goals and concerns, guiding you through every step of your transformation journey with compassion, care, and expertise.
Anti-wrinkle Injections by using Botox ™
“True beauty is on the inside. We just perfect the packaging.”
The goal of our non-invasive anti-wrinkle injections are to counteract the negative effects of ageing and to enhance your beauty. Our focus is therefore to promote graceful ageing by softening wrinkles and re-proportioning appropriate features.
But that is not all we use it for – we can make use of Botox ™ to relax your grinding muscles in your jaw to relieve symptoms commonly associated with grinding/ clenching.
Clear aligner therapy
Clear aligners are a revolutionary new method of straightening teeth in a more comfortable and aesthetic way. It consists of several stages of custom-made clear aligners that gradually move the teeth according to a carefully constructed treatment plan by the use of digital scanning software.
We have partnered with Smile Club, who are an international provider of aligners to ensure that we can provide an improved smile where there are gaps, skew teeth and bite problems.
Injection moulding
Getting a new smile has never been easier! By making use of our digital smile design software, in partnership with Smile Club, the appearance of your teeth can now be improved in a minimally invasive way.
Small chips, uneven teeth and small gaps can be improved by making use of a preformed mould which is carefully designed according to each mouth and by injecting a flowable, strong restorative material, the ideal aesthetic result can be achieved with a smooth and polished look.
